Erbil is generally safe, with a large police presence on the streets and at all the intersections. We do suggest that expatriates take certain precautions when traveling on foot. It is advised that people walk in pairs or in small groups. Having someone who speaks the language in the group would be advisable as well. These suggestions apply even more so to women and children.
