Since 2007, the YES Academy has been the only summer international performing arts education program for young people from all corners of the Kurdistan Region. The U.S. faculty is drawn from the United States’ most outstanding universities and cultural organizations such as The Julliard School, St Louis University and St. Thomas University. Courses offered include Guitar, Piano, String Orchestra, Chamber Music, Private Lessons and Composition. As well as jazz, hip-hop, ballet, break dancing, and children’s theater from previous years.
The YES Academy unites youth from all of the nation’s geographic regions, ethnic and confessional groups and gives them the opportunity to receive professional level training as well as to build bridges among themselves and among institutions. The YES Academy also provides an opportunity for capacity building in education in Iraq through teacher and curriculum development, practical skills, critical thinking, curriculum reform and donations of teaching materials and instruments.
The YES Academy is organized by American Voices, a U.S.-based NGO with over two decades of experience in international performing arts programming. American Voices is committed to providing capacity building performing arts programs that create opportunities to broaden youth horizons through cultural engagement.
